When you are at Kangar Perlis, Poh Kee is the name that you must remember. Should you don't know where the stall is, you can ask the local chinese folks where is Poh Kee located, they sure will know what are you talking about. Poh Kee in Kangar implies ABC and Rojak.
Ah Kee Ais Kacang stall selling deserts like Ais Kacang or ABC and Cendol and snack such as Rojak Buah and Laksa, has been around for more than 13 years and it is run by both father and son until now. "My father is the founder of this stall" say the son.
The ingredients of Ah Kee ABC are a bit different from the one found in most of the places. Sarsi syrup is used as one of the ABC dressing instead of the gula Melaka (brown sugar). As we know, gula Melaka gives a strong smell to the ABC and makes it tastes almost the same. However, with the substitution of Sarsi syrup, it tastes different and even better.
Fruit rojak is a fruit and vegetable salad dish which consists typically of cucumber, pineapple, turnip (sengkuang in malay), taupok (puffed soya bean cake) and youtiao (fried dough fritters) in shrimp paste (hae ko in Hokkien). Fruit rojak sold in Ah Kee Ais Kacang stall sometimes may even add in guava and mango. The special home-made rojak paste makes it perfect.
Laksa is also sold here. There are 3 types of laksa for you to choose from, i.e. asam (asam keping), lemak (coconut milk) and mix of asam and lemak. If you like the sour taste more, you can opt for Asam Laksa. Go for Lemak Asam Laksa, if like creamy laksa. The mix one tastes perfect, not so sour yet not so creamy.
Most importantly, the price are cheap too.
Ais Kacang with Ice Cream - RM 1.80 Rojak - RM 1.80 Laksa - RM 2.00
